Overview

What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 (Body Protective Compound-157) is a 15-amino-acid sequence isolated from human gastric juice. The most-studied 'repair peptide' in animal models, it accelerates healing across virtually every tissue tested — tendon, ligament, muscle, gut, brain and vasculature.

What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 is a partial sequence of the Body Protection Compound found in human gastric juice. It has been extensively studied in preclinical models for its ability to accelerate healing across virtually every tissue tested — tendon, ligament, muscle, GI lining, brain and vasculature.

Unlike growth factors that act on a single pathway, BPC-157 modulates several repair systems in parallel: angiogenesis, fibroblast migration, and nitric-oxide signaling. This is why it is often described as a systemic repair signal rather than a target-specific therapeutic.

How does BPC-157 work?

BPC-157 upregulates VEGFR2 signaling, promoting new capillary growth (angiogenesis) at injury sites. This restores blood flow, which is the rate-limiting step in most soft-tissue healing.

It also activates the FAK–paxillin pathway, driving fibroblast migration and organized collagen deposition. In the gut, it stabilizes the mucosal lining and modulates the nitric-oxide system to protect against ulceration.

Neuroprotective effects have been observed in traumatic brain injury and serotonergic-damage models, suggesting broader modulation of neurotransmitter balance.

Research highlights

• Tendon-to-bone healing (Achilles transection models)

• Accelerated muscle-crush and ligament-repair timelines

• Reversal of NSAID- and alcohol-induced gastric ulceration

• Neuroprotection in TBI and stroke models

• Vascular protection and improved endothelial function

• Well tolerated across all published in-vitro and animal studies

Dosing reference (research use)

Common research dosing: 250–500 mcg subcutaneously, once or twice daily, in 4–8 week cycles. Injection is often performed near the target injury site.

1 vial = 5 mg. At 250 mcg/day, a vial covers ~20 days. At 500 mcg/day, ~10 days.

Reported side-effect signals

Generally well-tolerated in the published literature.

Occasional mild injection-site sensitivity.
